“The soft skills the machinist uses are the unseen tools in their box and can directly impact the success or failure of a dreamed after machining career.”

School Donations Matter

When a business donates equipment to a technical education classroom, even a small donation can make a great impact on the program. An even greater impact can be made on the students in the program, according to James Peter. James is the technical education teacher at Ozaukee High School in Fredonia Wisconsin.

The technical education department at the school received a few donations that added up to a complete work center for educational purposes. These donations were a Bridgeport milling machine, a work holding vise for the milling machine, and carbide and high-speed steel cutting tools for the milling machine. These three donations came from three different donors and they added up to a well-equipped workstation for the students. With these donations the students can make parts on the mill for their projects. This is just one example of how the donations helped the program.

Donations both large and small can help. Even used equipment or tools with an unknown purpose can help the school program. James says that if the tools purpose is not known, it can spark conversations that are educational for the class.

To donate to a school’s technical education program, contact either the school office, the principal, or the teacher and they can help coordinate the donation.
